Safety in Numbers

Weave Description
This weave was created while making Kinged Vipera Berus. Unlike Vipera Berus, which is a European 4 in 1 based weave, the base of this weave is a 1-1 (or 2-2 chain in the kinged version). The horizontal 1-1 chains are connected with vertically opposite berused rings. (You can also berus the rings in the same direction if you wish).

Where Vipera Berus Sheet has every horizontal ring going through 2 sets of horizontal rings, this sheet has the horizontal rings going through only 1 set of horizontal rings. The end result is a sheet that on the surface looks almost identical to Vipera Berus.

The sample shown is the un-kinged version made in 18g swg 11/64" ID bright aluminum rings, making the ideal AR about 3.8. That AR allows the piece to have a fluid feel and dense appearance.

Edited to add, 3/5/16: I've tested a couple more sizes of the un-kinged version, and if you want a tight, dense weave, try an AR of 3.15 (16g swg 3/16 ID). This is the minimum AR for this weave.
A couple other sizes that work: 16g swg x 5.25mm; 16g swg 7/32" ID AA.

The kinged version can be made in 18g swg 1/4" ID (AR of ~5.5). You can also mix Kinged Vipera Berus edging with Kinged Safety in Numbers middle sections if you weave with 18g swg 9/32" ID (AR of ~6.2).
