I'm such a lazy bum. My new contract's been keeping me running 10-12 hours a day, and I haven't put in any time on the site in weeks...

That said, before we move, there's a decision to be made. Do we want to build a new site at the destination, with all the new features we'd love to have, and just transfer the BBS when we're done, or just move everything as-is now, to solve the immediate performance issues?

I'm leaning toward move as-is, but it sure would be nice to start clean and get everything new and shiny!

Oh, and yes, I've been buying the domain myself for a couple of years. It's my yearly donation to MAIL.

I think the current performance issues are more pressing. We'll have plenty of development space on the new server.

I concur. Get the move over with first. Tinkering isn't exclusive to moving, so if time permits, we can do both. MAIL's been running like crap lately. Time to move! Razz

I concur. Time to pull the trigger. We can play at our leisure later. (Don?t you just love that ?we? from a non-coder?)

Let's move this sucker. I just had to re-load the site 4 times to simply log in. Meh.

I have no opinion, but either way it would be nice to get it over with as soon as possible but with as little strain on our coders as possible.

In other news I just found this, which I thought was a hell of a good idea for picking a hosting company.

Y'know, that might just be crazy enough to work!

While I do prefer the idea of starting anew, i.e. building a new system from scratch, I have to agree that moving to a new server is more important.

I just talked to Kim and he asked me to post his opinion by proxy. He says he votes to move now and build later. He also wanted to know if anyone has given any thought as to who will own the new site once it's up. Obviously that's not a pressing point, but probably something we need to think about.

What else needs doing or deciding before we can move?

Just the doing, I think.

I know I've been a slug lately, but if you point me at the host/plan/etc, I'll register everything. Copying the site is fairly straightforward, but the DB gives me the willies. I've never had any luck with moving huge chunks of mysql exports...

Me still being a slug is what happened! I swear I'll get to it, but probably not until August.
