I've not yet worked with copper but have read it can be challenging to work with.

Can 18 ga be hand-wound or will I end up in tears or cuss words (not good in front of tot learning to talk.)

I found 18 ga copper wire at a local hardware store for $5.49 for 25 ft. I don't even know if that's a good price for buying locally as opposed to the internet.

I await your collective wisdom and experience with bated breath.

Copper is easy to work with Smile Even full-hard, you will find it is a lot kinder than steel. 18g anything is also pretty easy to coil.

Hardware store copper, however, will likely be electrical copper, and thus dead soft... A poor choice for chainmail.

In general, in fact, hardware store wire is usually a poor choice for chainmail... Both in terms of unknown hardness, as well as being more costly than buying from a dedicated wire seller.

As far as how the actual cost for your wire breaks down... It's about 22c per foot, at the hardware store.
Quick comparisson at TRL (100ft for $8.70) gives you 8c per foot.

Hopes this helps Smile
